Tam Perry, PhD
Dr. Perry’s research addresses urban aging from a life course perspective, focusing on how underserved older adults navigate their social and built environments in times of instability and change. She serves as research chair of a multi-agency coalition, Senior Housing Preservation-Detroit. She recently received a national award on behalf of the coalition. See: Wayne State Social Work faculty and Hannan Center social worker recognized for partnership benefiting Detroit’s older adults.
Two of her current projects are “Navigating Time and Space: Experiences of Aging with Hemophilia” and “Experiences of Belonging: Assessing Vulnerabilities of Older Detroiters Within Changing Urban Environments”. She has recently been elected to the Board of Directors for the Gerontological Society of America. Dr. Perry also co-directs the Community Liaison and Recruitment Core for the NIH funded Michigan Center for Urban African American Aging Research overseeing our 1100-member research registry and Community Advisory Board. Shoba Dawson, PhD
Dr Shoba Dawson is a Senior Research Fellow in Inclusive Research at the Sheffield Centre for Health and Related Research, University of Sheffield, UK. Her PhD explored how patient and public involvement in health services research can be made more inclusive. Her work mainly focuses on increasing ethnic diversity in health research and in patient and public involvement. She also was commissioned by the NIHR Centre for Engagement and Dissemination to explore how NIHR as a funder can promote inclusion in public partnerships https://www.learningforinvolvement.org.uk/content/resource/supporting-equity-and-tackling-inequality-how-can-nihr-promote-inclusion-in-public-partnerships/.

Dawn Richards, PhD
In 2017, Dawn founded Five02 Labs Inc., so she could combine her scientific training and her passion to ensure patients inform research and healthcare. She helps people and organizations design and execute on their patient engagement initiatives using leading practices and tailored approaches. Some of her current clients include Clinical Trials Ontario, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research’s Institute of Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis, and the University Health Network (Toronto). She contributes to the literature and practice in patient engagement around compensation of patient partners, authorship with patient partners, recognizing patients as people with various skills and who lead fulfilling lives, and education around patient engagement in research. As a volunteer, Dawn is Vice President of the Canadian Arthritis Patient Alliance.
Kristina Staley, PhD
For the past 25 years Kristina has worked to promote and support the involvement of patients and carers in health and social care R&D. She is based in the UK where she provides consultancy advice to a wide range of voluntary and statutory sector organisations, to help them develop strategic approaches to involvement, to evaluate the impact of their involvement and to develop their policy and practice.
