Kat Preftes, BA, MA

Katherine “Kat” Preftes is a Project Manager with Collective Insight. She has an extensive background in account management and community engagement, and values the importance of relationship-building, civic responsibility, and conducting business with a conscience. Kat holds a BA from the Elliott School of International Affairs at the George Washington University and an MA in International Affairs, Global Governance and Rights from the New School University.

Kat began her career in sports advertising and marketing with ESPN and NESN, where she managed relationships with cable and satellite affiliates, negotiated affiliation agreements, and developed marketing initiatives. A move to Massachusetts from the New York area brought her to the Human Rights Commission, which she chaired for 5 years and where she currently serves as Community and Outreach Liaison. Through her involvement with the Commission, Kat has engaged the community to advocate for diversity and inclusion and respond to bias incidents. Kat has written extensively in support of the human rights of vulnerable populations and against all forms of bigotry and racism, facilitated and appeared on panels to discuss human rights issues, and organized community forums and Newburyport’s annual Peace Prize Awards, where members of the community are recognized for their contributions to creating a more welcoming, inclusive city. As Project Manager for Collective Insight, Kat serves as a support writer and researcher for Managed Care Proposals, evaluates grants and recently managed the search for a new executive director at local CIL.
